1.Who we are

MarAI Keyboard is made by Deniz Maral, an independent developer based in Switzerland. In this policy, “MarAI”, “we” and “us” mean Deniz Maral. For the small amount of personal information we receive (described in Section 8), we are the controller under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.

2.At a glance

• What you type is processed on your device. The keyboard does not send it to us or to anyone else.
• The words MarAI learns stay on your device and, if iCloud Sync is on, in your own private iCloud storage. We cannot access either.
• There are no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no account, and we never sell or share your data.
• The app goes online only for the things listed in Section 7, such as downloading language packs and purchases through Apple.
• We only receive what you choose to send us, like a support email, plus reports from Apple that do not identify you and, if you join a beta, your tester details.

3.What this policy covers

This policy applies to the MarAI Keyboard app for iPhone and iPad, the MarAI keyboard extension, the MarAI share extension used to train the keyboard (shown as “TrainShare”), and these web pages. It does not cover the apps you type into, Apple’s services such as iCloud, the App Store and Apple Intelligence, or websites you open. Those have their own privacy policies.

4.What happens when you type

To show suggestions, correct typos, predict the next word and recognise which language you are writing in, the keyboard reads your keystrokes and the text around the cursor in the field you are typing in. This happens in the keyboard’s memory on your device. The keyboard has no server to send it to, and it does not keep a record of the messages or documents you write.

iOS automatically switches to Apple’s keyboard in password fields, so MarAI never receives passwords typed there.

What the keyboard learns

While MarAI is your keyboard and Private Mode is off, it learns from what you type so that suggestions fit you better. It saves:

• words you use that are not in its built-in dictionaries, how often you use them and how you capitalise them;
• word pairs, meaning which word tends to follow another;
• when a word was last used, and markers for words you removed so they don’t come back;
• typing patterns used to adapt suggestions, such as corrections you accept and where you tend to tap on each key;
• words you block and words you teach it through Train Keyboard or the share extension.

It does not save whole sentences or messages. Diagnostic logs the app writes to your device’s system log do not contain the text you type.

Full Access

iOS asks you to “Allow Full Access” before any third-party keyboard can share storage with its app, read the clipboard or use the network. Apple shows the same general warning for every keyboard. In MarAI, Full Access is used to save what the keyboard learns where the MarAI app can show, manage and sync it; to offer clipboard history; and to download and update language packs from the keyboard. It is not used to send what you type to us. You can turn Full Access off at any time in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > MarAI. Some features stop working without it.

5.Data stored on your device

MarAI keeps its data in storage shared between the app and the keyboard on your device. We do not receive a copy.

Clipboard history is captured when you open the clipboard panel, or whenever the keyboard appears if you turn on Update Clipboard on Appear (off by default). It skips content that looks like a password or one-time code, and it hides card numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, access tokens, private keys and recovery phrases in the list until you choose to paste the original. This filtering is automatic and can miss things, so avoid copying sensitive content you don’t want kept for 24 hours. Private Mode stops clipboard capture.

Except for clipboard history, this data can be included in your device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) like other app data.

6.iCloud Sync

iCloud Sync keeps the words MarAI has learned the same on all devices signed in to your Apple Account.

• What syncs: your learned words and word pairs for each language, including words you taught it, and markers for words you removed. Settings, clipboard history, typing patterns, layouts, themes and snippets do not sync.
• When it is on: iCloud Sync is on by default if you are signed in to iCloud. You can turn it off at any time in the MarAI app under Behavior > iCloud Sync.
• Where it goes: Apple’s CloudKit service, in the private storage that belongs to your Apple Account. Only your Apple Account can access it. We cannot see, read or download it. Apple stores and processes it under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
• Encryption: Apple encrypts iCloud data in transit and on its servers. If you turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, additional end-to-end encryption applies as described by Apple.
• How often: the MarAI app syncs at most every few hours, when you open it or in the background. The keyboard itself does not sync.

7.When the app connects to the internet

MarAI does not upload what you type or what it has learned to us. It connects to the internet only in these situations:

Language packs

Dictionaries and language models are downloaded from a CloudKit database we operate on Apple’s servers when you turn on a language, and checked for updates by the app. If Full Access is on, the keyboard also checks for updates, about once a day or more often while a language you turned on is still missing. These requests tell Apple which language pack is being downloaded, along with the network information any download involves, such as your IP address. They contain nothing you typed or learned, and we do not receive them.

Purchases and subscriptions

MarAI Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment and manages your subscription. We never receive your payment details or your Apple Account details. The app asks Apple whether you have an active purchase so it can unlock Pro.

Training from shared content

When you share text, a PDF or a file to MarAI, it is read on your device. A shared file is copied to the extension’s temporary storage while it is read, and iOS clears that storage automatically. Only the words and word pairs the keyboard learns from it are kept. When you share a web link, the share extension downloads that page directly from its website so it can read the words on it. That website receives an ordinary request from your device, including your IP address, and handles it under its own policy.

AI Writing and Translate

AI Writing (a Pro feature) uses Apple Intelligence’s on-device model through Apple’s Foundation Models framework. When you open the AI Writing panel, it reads the text in the field you are typing in so it can rewrite or continue it. Translate (a Pro feature) uses Apple’s Translation framework, and iOS may download translation languages from Apple. We do not receive the text you use with either feature. These features are provided by Apple, and Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to them. They need a supported device, iOS version, language and region.

Emails you send us

Sending a message from Feedback, or reporting a language download problem, opens an email addressed to us. A Feedback message includes what you wrote and, unless you switch off Include device & keyboard setup, your device model, iOS version, app version and build, the languages and keyboard layout you use, whether autocorrection and Private Mode are on, whether you have Pro, and the app’s language. A download problem report includes the language, the error, the app version and build, your iOS version and device model. Share to Developer in Blocked Words attaches a file with the words you blocked and basic dictionary information. Nothing is sent until you tap send, and you can edit or delete anything first. Our address is a Gmail account, so Google processes these emails under Google’s Privacy Policy.

8.What we receive

• Messages you send us, and whatever they contain, including your email address and the details described in Section 7.
• Reports from Apple about downloads, sales, subscriptions and refunds, grouped by product, country and date. They do not tell us who you are.
• Crash reports and app usage statistics, only if you chose to share analytics with app developers in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. Apple provides these to us without identifying you.
• A random iCloud identifier. Apple’s iCloud gives each Apple Account that uses MarAI a random identifier for our app. It does not tell us your name, email address or Apple Account, and we cannot link it to you.
• If you join a TestFlight beta, Apple shares the name and email address you were invited with, which builds you installed, how often you opened them and how often they crashed, and any feedback, screenshots, crash reports and device details you submit, under Apple’s TestFlight terms.
• App Store ratings and reviews you post. Reviews are public and show the nickname you chose. You can edit or remove them in the App Store; we cannot.

We do not run servers of our own that receive data from the app, and there is no MarAI account.

9.What we don’t do

• We don’t show ads or include advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
• We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t use your device’s advertising identifier.
• We don’t sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
• We don’t access your location, contacts, photo library, camera or microphone.
• We don’t build profiles about you or use your data to train AI models.

10.Your controls

• Private Mode pauses learning and clipboard capture. Turn it on from the keyboard’s quick action row or in the app under Behavior.
• Remove a word by long-pressing it in the suggestion bar and choosing Remove word. This works on every plan.
• Browse and delete learned words and word pairs in Statistics (Pro), or free up space per language in Storage. Read the note in Section 6 if iCloud Sync is on.
• Turn off iCloud Sync in Behavior > iCloud Sync, and delete MarAI’s iCloud data as described in Section 6.
• Turn off Full Access in iOS Settings, as described in Section 4.
• Clear clipboard history from the clipboard panel.
• Remove everything on your device by deleting the MarAI app.

11.Why we may process personal information

Where the GDPR or a similar law requires a legal basis, we rely on:

• Providing the app you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) for learning, clipboard history, iCloud Sync, language packs and unlocking Pro. You can switch these features off at any time.
• Our legitimate interest in answering your messages, fixing problems and understanding how the app performs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Legal obligations, such as keeping sales records for tax and accounting (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
• Your consent to Apple for sharing crash reports and analytics with developers, which you can withdraw in iOS Settings.

12.How long data is kept

• Data on your device stays until you delete it, turn off the feature, or delete the app. Clipboard items expire after 24 hours unless pinned.
• Data in your iCloud stays until you delete it there. Apple’s policies apply.
• We keep support emails as long as we need them to help you and handle follow-up questions, then delete them. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.
• If you are a beta tester, we can remove you from the beta on request. Apple’s TestFlight terms cover what Apple keeps.
• Crash reports and usage statistics stay in Apple’s developer tools for as long as Apple keeps them there. We cannot delete them.
• Apple’s sales reports are kept as long as needed for accounting and legal requirements.

13.International transfers

Apple and Google operate worldwide and may process information in the United States and other countries. They use recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions, the EU–U.S. and Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks and standard contractual clauses, as described in their privacy policies.

14.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent. Because the app keeps your typing data on your device and in your own iCloud, you can view and delete most of it yourself using the controls in Section 10. We cannot access that data, so we cannot view or delete it for you.

The personal information we hold is what reaches us directly: the emails you send us and, if you joined a TestFlight beta, your tester details, usage and feedback. To make a request about it, write to maraikeyboard@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm the request from the same email address.

The sales reports, crash reports and usage statistics Apple gives us (Section 8) are not linked to you, so we cannot find or delete the ones that came from your device. The only consent involved is the one you give Apple to share crash reports and usage statistics with developers. You can withdraw it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. For information Apple holds about you, such as your Apple Account, purchases and iCloud data, use privacy.apple.com.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); in the EU or EEA, the authority where you live or work; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.

United States residents

Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws have the rights above to know, access, correct and delete personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in those laws, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf with proof of authorisation.

15.Children

MarAI is a general-purpose keyboard. It does not collect personal information from anyone through normal use, including children. We do not knowingly receive personal information from children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where they live. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

16.Security

Your data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and data protection, clipboard history uses iOS’s strongest file protection, and iCloud data is protected by Apple as described in Section 6. No method of storage or transfer is completely secure, so protect your device with a passcode and keep your Apple Account secure.

17.This website

These pages are hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and secure the site, under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. GitHub does not give us those logs. The pages use no cookies, analytics, web fonts or scripts from other companies.

18.Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the effective date and list the main changes at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how your data is handled, we will also give notice in the app or on this page before it applies.
